I arrived on campus around 7am on thursday! I am very excited because its my 1st day in school. I did not know what to expect so kept my fingers crossed in expectation of positive results. I walked down the hall to the chemistry class. "Good day class"...I heard a loud voice say! Quickly, I ran and picked the chair beside me! "That must be mr bassie,the very wicked chemistry lecturer aunty kenny told me about!"... While the lecture was on,I felt a tap on my back. Immediately,I turned to see the idiot that wanted to ruin my perfectly ironed white shirt! "Sorry,that's my seat"...the girl with the tiny voice said. "Your seat?,but I dint meet anybody here nah"...I said! "That's my bag on the floor,u probably dropped it while sitting"...she said! With guilt on my face I looked at her n apologised! "Its ok dear,we can share"...she said! ...That marked the beginning of a wonderful friendship!
Princess and I became very close! So close that we even ended up staying in the same hostel! My name is yemi abiola. I am from a family of five! My mum is a petty trader n dad enjoys drinking and coming home late at night. My family is not what you can call a peaceful home. My parents fight as if the world depends on it! Well!!...if u look at things closely,U can say I am from a poor family! Unlike me,princess is an only child! Over pampered with love,care and a lot of money! She lost her mum when she was 6. She often told me that wasn't easy for her dad because he loved her so much! Her dad promised to never marry another woman to avoid hatred or maltreatment! Princess and her dad are so close! He does everything for her! Sometimes I even envy her...I wish my dad could love me like that!
Year one days were very hard...I couldn't afford to do anything! No money for food..let alone books! Thank God for princess in my life! Well,it was more like trade by barter because princess is what you can call a typical olodo! Lol!!!! I help her with her assignments,tests n all... And she feeds me! Well... I know you'll think am a shame less person...but I don't have any choice! As the years passed by,we became closer n closer! Actually, she even refered to me as her bestie!!!
One day, while I was doing my daily chores. Princess rushed in... Yemi yemi yemi!!!! "What is it,why are you screaming my name as if you've seen a ghost"...I said! I noticed the look on her face. She looked very sad. "Princess what is it? Don't tell me you caught that stupid kunle with another girl again"...I said. She looked at me. Her eyes were so red! As red as iya kalid's fresh zobo! I could sense that she had been crying. "Girlfriend,U know that that stupid boy doesn't deserve you. That boy wey be like burnt offering. Babe,you dey fall my hand oooo"...I said. "IT's DADDY"...she said! "Ehn Daddy,what's wrong with him?"... For a while,I imagined that my education had come 2 an end. Princess' daddy is my major means of survival! He can't die on me now!!!!! NO way!! "Can you imagine that daddy wants to marry another wife"...she said!! Gosh!!!! Relief!!!! That was the only feeling I had!! "That's good news na...you no want make your papa chop life???"... I asked! She looked at me wit so much anger. "What do you mean by that?...chop which life? He promised to never leave me...To always love me...and never let any other woman come between Us".
I just started laughing...."Omo daddy"...I said! "Its a normal thing...he needs somebody to do other things with. Don't worry, am sure she's a nice woman"...I said! She looked at me n said..."I know you won't understand. its really complicated!!" "Omo,forget that side!!! Watin you go chop" I asked.
